A Prescription for Health, Hope, and Opportunity
Rx Kids is the first-ever citywide cash prescription program for pregnant moms and babies. Rx Kids provides all pregnant moms in the city of Flint with no-strings-attached cash of $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 each month throughout a baby’s first year.

Signing Up is
as Easy as 1, 2, 3!
To qualify for Rx Kids benefits you must be a city of Flint resident.
Make sure you’re ready by following these three steps to participate. Residents of surrounding townships including Flint township and other parts of Genesee County are not eligible.
Gather Your Documentation
You will need to verify your identity, city of Flint residency, and pregnancy (at least 20 weeks) or guardianship.
Sometimes it’s difficult to determine if you live in the city of Flint. See FAQ’s for details.
Apply Online
If you are pregnant or have a baby born in 2024 or later and live in the city of Flint, you can apply.
Await Verification and Receive Your Cash Prescriptions
After verification, you will receive a message letting you know when to expect your first payment. Payments begin at the point of enrollment.

Flint just celebrated an historic Mother’s Day, with nearly 700 moms and babies enrolled in the Rx Kids program and more than $1 million in cash already prescribed. Rx Kids is the first citywide universal maternal and infant cash prescription program in the country.

Rx Kids pulls funding from a mechanism called non-recurring short-term benefits, which provides cash aid to families for a short amount of time during an acute economic crisis. So what’s the acute economic crisis? Childbirth. Luke Shaefer explains that families are poorest at childbirth, as income and earnings go down and expenses rise. Everybody knows having a baby is expensive, and so that perfect storm means families are the poorest in that first year.
